WNBA announces introduction of Kobe and Gigi Bryant advocacy award

Kobe Bryant will be forever remembered as one of the biggest advocates for the advancement and visibility of women's basketball.

During the coverage of the 2020 WNBA draft, commissioner Cathy Engelbert announced the introduction of a new award in the honour of Kobe and Gianna Bryant.

The Kobe and Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award will recognise an individual or group that has made significant contributions to the visibility, perception and advancement of women's and girls basketball at all levels.

The WNBA and their partners will make a charitable contribution in the recipients name with the idea of further advancing the game.

The first Kobe and Gigi WNBA advocacy award winner is to be announced during All-Star weekend in 2021.
