The top eight teams in both the Western Conference and Eastern Conference will qualify for the playoffs. Each team will be seeded based on their record and matched up in the first round with a team in their conference based on the following format: 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5.
Every series throughout the playoffs will be best-of-seven. The team with the better record will host games 1, 2, 5 and 7 in each series, leaving games 3, 4 and 6 to be played on the home court of the lower seeded team.
Whichever team makes it out of the East will then match up with whichever team makes it out of the West in the Finals. The Golden State Warriors have represented the West in the last five NBA Finals, but the loss of Kevin Durant coupled with the Los Angeles Lakers and LA Clippers improving paves the way for a new team to make it out of the conference next season.
In the East, meanwhile, Kawhi Leonard's departure from the Toronto Raptors has the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers as preseason favourites to make the Finals.
