Welcome to my Neighbourhood presented by DoorDash: RJ Barrett talks love for Jamaican food in Mississauga

RJ Barrett is one of Canada's brightest young stars.

Barrett just completed his second season in the NBA where he made great strides, averaging 17.6 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting 40.1 percent from 3-point range. This summer, Barrett is also expected to represent Team Canada to qualify for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Before all that, Barrett teamed up with DoorDash as part of the "Welcome to my Neighbourhood" campaign to talk about his love for the food he enjoys when he's back home in Mississauga.

"When I come home, one of the first things that I have to do is go get some Jamaican food," Barrett said. "I love beef patties, oxtail and rice and peas, and recently I've also been eating a lot of Mediterranean food.

"You know as an athlete, I feel like it is important to have some cheat meals at certain times.

"So for me I kind of go for burgers, pizza - you know I love double cheeseburgers and bacon. Chicken wings, french fries or anything."

Barrett also recalls enjoying poutine every day in middle school.

"I remember when I was in middle school, I had poutine almost every day for lunch. So definitely go get yourself some poutine."

Barrett also talked about how much he enjoys being able to get a variety of foods, not just in Mississauga but throughout the country.

"What I like about Mississauga or Canada, in general, is, you don't really need to rely on any one spot. There's so much good food everywhere you can kind of go anywhere and get a great meal."
