Game Preview

The Toronto Raptors begin the second half of a six-game road trip as they travel to the FedEx Forum to take on the Memphis Grizzlies.

Winners of three of its last four, Toronto opened the lengthy Super Bowl trip with two impressive wins before falling to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night. In the loss to the Hawks, which came on the second night of a back-to-back, Raptors centre Chris Boucher came off the bench to score a career-high 29 points (on 10-for-13 shooting) and pull down 10 rebounds in just under 33 minutes of action.

Fatigue looked to have impacted Toronto on Saturday, as its starters combined to shoot 24-for-69 (34.7%) from the field, including Fred VanVleet's 6-for-18 and Kyle Lowry's 4-for-16 shooting. The biggest struggles, however, came on the defensive end, as Atlanta shot 56.8% from the field and 52.8% from beyond the arc for the game.

The Raptors are now set for another unique test as they take on the Grizzlies, who have now lost three straight after losing to the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night.

Thus continues a series of ups and downs for a Memphis team that has yet to play at full strength up to this point in the season. While Jaren Jackson Jr. and Justise Winslow have yet to play this season, Ja Morant missed eight games early on with an ankle injury while Grayson Allen and Jonas Valanciunas finally returned to action on Saturday after missing time due to the league's health and safety protocols.

Valanciunas didn't appear to have missed a beat, finishing with 23 points (on 9-for-11 shooting) and seven rebounds while seeing 24 minutes off the bench in his first action since Jan. 16. Given Toronto's thin frontcourt rotation, finding a way to make things difficult for JV will be a key point on Monday night.

A major focal point for the Grizzlies will be getting Morant back on track. During Memphis' recent skid, last year's Rookie of the Year is averaging 13.7 points and 6.0 assists while shooting 33.3% from the field and 18.2% from beyond the arc.

Things will get no easier for the 21-year-old, who will have to deal with the defence of Lowry and VanVleet among others on Monday.
