Led by former Raptors coach Dwane Casey, the Pistons are headlined by a pair of All-Star big men in Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond.
Griffin got off to a scorching hot start this season in leading Detroit to a 4-0 record, but both he and the team have since cooled off, losing six of their last eight games.
The Raptors have also had a lot of success against the Pistons in recent years having won six straight games.
Even so, containing Griffin will be a priority for the Raptors. He currently has one of the highest usage rates in the league and he uses those touches to create opportunities for himself and his teammates in volume.
To go along with his 24.1 points per game, ranking him 14th in the league, the only forwards creating more scoring with their assists on a nightly basis are Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Ben Simmons and LeBron James.
Nobody has benefited more from Griffin's playmaking so far this season than Drummond, who has been on the receiving end of a quarter of his total assists. The two have established solid chemistry in pick-and-rolls, especially now that Griffin is making 3-pointers at a high rate off the dribble (41.7 percent through 12 games).
Outside of his screening and rolling, Drummond's greatest asset on offence is his rebounding. To go along with his 6.2 offensive rebounds per game, the two-time All-Star scores more second-chance points than anyone else in the league.
It'll take a team effort to keep Drummond and Griffin, who is averaging 1.8 offensive rebounds himself, off the boards. Heading into their matchup with the Pistons, the Raptors are giving up the fourth-most offensive rebounds per game and the 8th-most second chance points per game.
Even though they ended up beating them by 16 points, defensive rebounding was a factor in their recent win over the New York Knicks, with Enes Kanter pulling down nine offensive rebounds all by himself.
If they can come up with the win, the Raptors will match the franchise's best start through 15 games before embarking on a four-game road trip.
