Toronto Raptors defeat New York Knicks 104-99 in Marc Gasol's debut

The Toronto Raptors defeated the New York Knicks to close out a perfect 3-0 road trip.

The Raptors' poor shooting night from the field kept things interesting as the Knicks brought this game down to the wire. They have now won four games in a row, while the Knicks have lost 16 consecutive games.

Final: Raptors 104, Knicks 99

9:57 p.m. –  The Raptors come away with a 104-99 win over the Knicks! Kyle Lowry led the way with 22 points, five assists, four rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Serge Ibaka had a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Marc Gasol finished with seven points, six rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block.

For the Knicks, Kevin Knox had 20 points, DeAndre Jordan had a double-double of 10 points and 18 rebounds and Kadeem Allen had career-highs with 14 points and six assists.


9:47 p.m. –  A corner three for Kevin Knox makes it a three-point game at 99-96 with under two minutes to go in the game!

9:39 p.m. –  All five of the Raptors' starters are in double figures after a Danny Green 3-pointer than puts Toronto up 94-90 with 3:44 to go. The Raptors' last two buckets came by way of a Green 3-ball.


9:28 p.m. –  The Knicks have taken their first lead since 38-36 in the second quarter. A Mitchell Robinson and-1 puts the Knicks up 86-85 with just over seven minutes to go in the game.

End of third quarter: Raptors 74, Knicks 69

9:17 p.m. –  New York finished the quarter strongly but the Raptors still lead 74-69 going into the fourth quarter. The final possession of the third was a thing of beauty as Fred VanVleet drove to the hoop, kept his dribble alive on the baseline and kicked out to a wide open Norman Powell at the top of the arc for three!


9:08 p.m. –  The Knicks have cut the Raptors' lead to six points at 67-61. Kevin Knox has 10 points in the quarter to spark the Knicks' comeback.

8:58 p.m. –  Kawhi Leonard hit the technical free throw to start the half and the Raptors have rattled off an 13-4 run in the first three minutes. They lead 59-46 with 8:21 to go in the third quarter. 

Halftime: Raptors 46, Knicks 42

8:38 p.m. –  DeAndre Jordan has been given a technical foul for slamming the ball as time expired in the first half. The Raptors will shoot the technical free throw before the second half starts.

Pascal Siakam has a team-high nine points for the Raptors. Serge Ibaka has seven points and seven rebounds and Kawhi Leonard has chipped in six points, two rebounds and two assists.

Jordan already has a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, keeping the energy for the Knicks. Dennis Smith Jr. and Kevin Knox are a combined 4-for-21 from the field in the first half.

8:28 p.m. –  The Knicks are struggling to shoot from the field but lead 38-36 with 3:34 left in the half. A Dennis Smith Jr. 3-pointer gives them five straight points forcing a Nick Nurse timeout.


8:18 p.m. –  Now it's a mid-range jumper for Gasol that ties the game up at 32-32 with 7:51 to go in the half. He has four points and four rebounds early on.

8:14 p.m. –  Marc Gasol has his first career bucket as a Raptor! He gets a jump hook in the lane to fall to get on the board.


End of first quarter: Raptors 25, Knicks 23

8:09 p.m.  – The Raptors went on a 22-9 run to close out the quarter. Pascal Siakam had a team-high six points in the first quarter. Toronto is 3-for-5 from 3-point land and has six assists on eight field goals. DeAndre Jordan is off to a hot start for the Knicks with seven points, three rebounds and a block.

8:05 p.m. –  Marc Gasol has checked into the game  to a bit of an ovation on the road with just over two minutes left in the first quarter!


7:58 p.m. –  The Raptors have responded well after a Nick Nurse timeout to stop the run. They still trail 19-13.

7:39 p.m. –  After Kawhi Leonard knocked down the first shot of the game, the Knicks have gone on a 14-0 run to take a 14-3 lead. This Dennis Smith Jr. and DeAndre Jordan connection helped spark that run.

7:29 p.m. –  The Knicks will start Dennis Smith Jr., Damyean Dotson, Kevin Knox, Mario Hezonja and DeAndre Jordan tonight.


6:46 p.m. — Get used to seeing a lot of this, Raptors fans:


6:25 p.m. — The Raptors will start Kyle Lowry, Danny Green, Kawhi Leonard, Pascal Siakam and Serge Ibaka against the Knicks. Marc Gasol will come off the bench.

It's not something Gasol has done much in his NBA career.
