Toronto Raptors centre Marc Gasol set to miss 'a period of weeks' with left hamstring strain

The Toronto Raptors have been dealt another injury blow, with Championship center Marc Gasol set to miss an extended period on the sideline with a hamstring injury.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that the left hamstring strain will keep Gasol out for "a period of weeks."

The injury was sustained as Gasol ran back on defence against the Detroit Pistons Wednesday. The 34-year-old clutched at his hamstring and immediately waved to the bench before leaving the game.

The veteran big man has once again been a huge factor defensively for Toronto, while also averaging 6.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game in 27 appearances.

It's the latest in a series of injury blows for the Raptors, who will also be without Norman Powell for an undisclosed period with a shoulder injury suffered in the same game.

Other key players to miss time early in the season include Kyle Lowry, Fred VanVleet and Serge Ibaka.

Toronto currently holds the Eastern Conference's fourth-seed, with a 19-8 record.
