Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry to miss preseason games against Charlotte Hornets

When the Toronto Raptors open their preseason schedule against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday, they'll do so without Kyle Lowry.

The Raptors announced ahead of the game that Lowry has been "granted permission" to remain in Tampa, Florida - the franchise's home base for the first half of the 2020-21 NBA season - and did not travel with the team to Charlotte.

With the Raptors scheduled to play their second preseason game against the Hornets in Charlotte on Monday, Lowry will miss that game as well.

Following their two games against the Hornets, the Raptors will take on the Miami Heat in Tampa on Dec. 18 for their third and final preseason game. The Raptors will then open their regular season on Dec. 23 against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Lowry is entering his ninth season with the Raptors. He's made six straight All-Star appearances with averages of 18.5 points, 7.2 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game.
