Toronto Raptors' second-half comeback falls short in 106-103 loss versus Denver Nuggets

The Toronto Raptors could not overcome their cold-shooting first half to complete the comeback against the Nuggets. Denver has now won six consecutive games.

Final: Nuggets 106, Raptors 103

9:55 p.m. - The Nuggets hold on to win 106-103. Nikola Jokic hits one free throw on an off-ball foul, then sinks both free throws on the intentional foul. Kyle Lowry misses the fallaway three to try and tie the game at the buzzer.

9:52 p.m. - With two defenders in his face, Kawhi Leonard knocks down the mid-range fadeaway to tie things up at 103! Seven seconds to go, Nuggets ball.

Sure Not Now

9:50 p.m. - A pair of missed threes from Danny Green led to a defensive rebound and free throws for Juancho Hernangomez. After making 1-of-2, the Raptors have possession trailing 103-101 with 12 seconds remaining.

9:47 p.m. - And now it's Nikola Jokic coming up clutch! He hits a floater in the lane to regain the lead 102-101 with 40 seconds to go. Timeout Raptors.

9:44 p.m. - Kawhi Leonard! He knocks down the one dribble pull-up to take a 101-100 lead with 54 seconds left. Incredible bounce-back for Leonard after two consecutive turnovers and a missed 3-pointer on the Raptors last few possessions.

9:35 p.m. - We're all tied up! Pascal Siakam finds Serge Ibaka on a big time dunk to knot the game at 94 with 4:40 to go. Scotiabank Arena is rocking.

9:28 p.m. - Nick Nurse, in disagreement with the referee's foul call on a Monte Morris 3-point attempt, gets a technical foul. Jamal Murray hit the technical free throw and Morris goes 1-for-3 at the line to make it 92-88. Timeout Raptors.

9:26 p.m. - It's a 10-0 run for the Raptors! The bench mob of Fred VanVleet, Delon Wright, OG Anunoby, CJ Miles and Jonas Valanciunas have cut the Nuggets' lead to one at 89-88!

9:22 p.m. - A three from OG Anunoby and a smooth left handed finish through traffic from Delon Wright has the Raptors down six, 89-83, with nine minutes to play.

End of third quarter: Nuggets 78, Raptors 70

9:16 p.m. - It's an eight-point Nuggets lead going into the final quarter, 78-70. The Raptors made five of their nine 3-point attemtps in the third but have still been outrebounded 41-30, resulting in 23 second chance points for Denver compared to two for Toronto.

9:07 p.m. - Denver's lead is still eight at 78-70 with 2:58 left in the third. Kawhi Leonard is up to 19 points and Nikola Jokic now has 16 points and 14 assists. Kyle Lowry has tried to work through his slow shooting night (1-for-6 from the field, 1-for-5 from three) with 10 assists.

8:58 p.m. - The Nuggets remain in the lead 71-63 but the Raptors are hanging around with just under six minutes to go in the third. They've gone back to their zone defence to try and disrupt the Nuggets offence, led by 16 points apiece from Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. Pascal Siakam is playing well for Toronto, per usual, with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists . shooting 6-for-8 from the field.

Halftime: Nuggets 59, Raptors 47

8:41 p.m. - Some team stats for the first half:

8:33 p.m. - The first half is in the books and the Nuggets lead 59-47. The Raptors finish the half shooting 13.6 percent (3-for-22) from three and are being out-rebounded 28-21. Kawhi Leonard leads all scorers with 16 points but is 0-for-4 from deep. Nikola Jokic goes into halftime already notching a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists. He'll be on triple-double watch in the second half, as he already has five rebounds as well.

8:27 p.m. - Nick Nurse needs a timeout after a 15-5 Nuggets run as Denver takes the lead 48-41. Nikola Jokic is filling it up in the first half with a team-high 10 points (tied with Jamal Murray), nine assists and five boards. The Raptors' shooting struggles continue as they are 3-for-20 from long range, down to 15.0 percent.

8:17 p.m. - Bad news for the Nuggets here - Gary Harris has left the game with a hip injury and will not return tonight.

8:16 p.m. - The Raptors have taken back the lead, 35-33 despite shooting 18.8 percent from 3-point land (3-for-16). The second unit has provided a small spark with a three ball from C.J. Miles, a bucket from Jonas Valanciunas and a coast-to-coast finish from Delon Wright to take the lead.

End of first quarter: Nuggets 27, Raptors 24

8:06 p.m. - The Nuggets end the quarter on an 11-4 run to take a 27-24 lead going into the second quarter. Juancho Hernangomez has it going early for Denver with seven points, three rebounds and a pair of steals and Nikola Jokic finished with seven assists in the first quarter. For the Raptors, Kawhi Leonard has eight points making three of his six shot attempts and OG Anunoby has three fouls in just four minutes of play.

7:54 p.m. - A quick 6-0 run has the Raptors up 20-16 with 4:23 to go in the first quarter. Kawhi Leonard scored all six points in the Raptors' run with two tough finishes and a pair of free throws.

7:48 p.m. - A whole lot of scoring through the first six minutes of this one! The Nuggets lead 16-14 early on. Pascal Siakam has two sweet spin moves for finishes so far in this one and Nikola Jokic already has five assists for the Nuggets.

7:31 p.m. - The Nuggets are going with Jamal Murray, Gary Harris, Paul Millsap, Juancho Hernangomez and Nikola Jokic.
