This Date in NBA History (Sep. 16): LeBron James becomes all-time leader for All-NBA selections

On Sep. 16 in 2020, LeBron James became the all-time leader for All-NBA selections in league history.

By being voted to the All-NBA First Team for the 2019-20 season, James received his 16th All-NBA selection. That broke a tie with legends such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant for the most All-NBA selections in NBA history and propelled the King to the top of the leaderboard.

With a Third Team selection for the 2020-21 season, James' tally of All-NBA selections increased to 17.

The 17 All-NBA selections include an NBA record 13 First Team selections.

This First Team vote, in 2020, only increased James' lead at the top of the leaderboard for most All-NBA First Team selections. He had become the all-time leader for most First Team selections in 2017-18, the 12th of his career and 11th consecutive.

The 11th consecutive All-NBA selections are tied for the most with NBA legends like Karl Malone and Michael Jordan.
