The Dallas Mavericks will have a new head coach next season.

In a statement to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Rick Carlisle revealed that he told Mavericks owner Mark Cuban that he won't be returning as head coach next season.

Carlisle had two more years remaining on his contract, Wojnarowski adds.

"After a number of in-person conversations with Mark Cuban over the last week, today I informed him that I will not be returning as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks," Carlisle said.

"This was solely my decision. My family and I have had an amazing 13-year experience working with great people in a great city. It has been an honor to work alongside Mark, Cynt, Donnie, Fin, Keith, Dirk, JKidd and every player and assistant coach I've had here.

"Dallas will always be home, but I am excited about the next chapter of my coaching career."

Carlisle replaced Avery Johnson as head coach of the Mavericks in 2008. In his 13 seasons with the Mavericks, the team posted a 555-478 record. Dallas made the playoffs nine times under Carlisle and won the first championship in franchise history in 2011.

Carlisle ranks 15th all-time among coaches with 836 wins to his name in the regular season. He ranks 17th all-time with 63 wins in the playoffs.

In addition to the Mavericks, the Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers, New Orleans Pelicans, Orlando Magic, Portland Trail Blazers and Washington Wizards each have a head coaching vacancy.
