Tyronn Lue's time as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers has come to an end, the team announced Sunday.

Cavs General Manager Koby Altman made the announcement at the team's practice facility:

"This was a very difficult decision. It is especially so, considering Coach Lue's time with us over the last four years, including four straight trips to the NBA Finals. We have respect and great admiration for Ty, not only as a coach, but a person. We thank him for the many ways he has contributed to our success, wish him the best and he will always be remembered for leading a very special Cavs team back against the odds to win the title in 2016. This is a different team equation, though, and one that we felt needed a different voice and approach that required this change."

Lue's firing comes on the heels of a 12-point loss to Indiana Saturday night in which the Pacers shot 64.9 percent from the field (48-for-74) for the game. Through six games, the Cavs have the league's second-worst defensive rating (118.3), allowing over 110 points in all but one game.

After being named head coach of the Cavaliers in Jan. 2016, Lue holds a regular season head coaching record of 128-83. In the postseason, he led the Cavs to three consecutive NBA Finals appearances, winning an NBA title in his first season as head coach in 2016.

Sure Not Now

Cavs associate head coach Larry Drew has been named as interim head coach.

Drew has spent four seasons as a head coach (three in Atlanta and one in Milwaukee), advancing to the postseason in each of his three seasons with the Hawks. Last season, Drew served as Cleveland's head coach for nine games while Lue took a medical leave of absence - the team was 8-1 in those nine games.

The Cavs will take the floor under Drew for the first time on Tuesday, Oct. 30 when they host the Atlanta Hawks.
