The New York Knicks have found their next head coach, with Tom Thibodeau reportedly finalising a five-year deal to take the reigns at Madison Square Garden, according to ESPN.

Thibodeau spent last season away from coaching after guiding the Minnesota Timberwolves to the playoffs in 2019, for the first time in 14 years.

Prior to that, Thibodeau spent five successful years with the Chicago Bulls, leading them to the playoffs in each season and was named Coach of the Year in 2011 - Derrick Rose's MVP season.

The 62-year-old returns to New York, where he served as an assistant coach with the Knicks under Jeff Van Gundy from 1996 to 2004 and will be looking to turn things around for a franchise desperate for playoff basketball.

After going 21-45 this season, the Knicks missed the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season, dating back to 2012-13.
