Report: New York Knicks fire head coach David Fizdale after 4-18 start to season

The New York Knicks have parted ways with their head coach David Fizdale, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Fizdale's dismissal comes after the Knicks were blown out in their last two outings, first by 44 points to the Milwaukee Bucks, then by 37 points to the Denver Nuggets.

At 4-18, New York will be in search of its seventh coach in the last 10 seasons.

Fizdale came to New York with a ton of promise but was only able to muster up a 21-83 record with the Knicks, the lowest win percentage of any coach in franchise history.

Assistant coach Keith Smart was also reportedly let go. Smart was a part of Fizdale's staff in Memphis and worked alongside Fizdale for two seasons in Miami.

The search now begins for a new head man in New York. After failing to secure any superstar free agents in the offseason, the Knicks seemed poised to rebuild from the ground up. There's still plenty of young talent in New York with RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson leading the way.

It will be interesting to see what route the Knicks brass decides to go with their new coach. Given they have a young team, will they hire another coach known for player development? Or will they look to employ a younger, up-and-coming Xs and Os coach?

Plenty of names will certainly be rumoured over the next couple of days.

The Knicks will host the Indiana Pacers on Saturday before they embark on a four-game Western Conference road trip.

More to come.
