Report: Dion Waiters agrees to deal with Los Angeles Lakers for remainder of the season

The Los Angeles Lakers are adding more firepower to their bench, reportedly signing free-agent guard Dion Waiters, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

The deal will reportedly be for the remainder of the season, with Charania noting the Lakers have the option to release Waiters.

The Lakers freed up a roster spot this week after waiving reserve shooting guard Troy Daniels, who went on to sign with the Denver Nuggets.

Waiters proved his worth to the Lakers as another shooting option off the bench after impressing during his workout at the team's facility this week. Free-agent shooting guard J.R. Smith also worked out for the team for their final spot on the roster.

The 28-year-old guard was on the open market after being waived by the Memphis Grizzlies, following his trade from the Miami Heat.

The Grizzlies acquired Waiters, along with Justise Winslow and Gorgui Dieng, with Andre Iguodala, Solomon Hill and Jae Crowder going to Miami.

Waiters appeared in just three games this season for the Heat and served three suspensions handed down by the team. The Lakers provide an opportunity for Waiters to contribute to a team with championship aspirations, as another low-cost shooter off the bench.

In eight seasons, Waiters has averaged 13.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists, while shooting 41.2 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from the three-point line.
