Report: Dennis Schroder agrees to one-year deal with Boston Celtics

Dennis schroder

Dennis Schroder is set to sign with the Boston Celtics on a one-year deal, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 27-year-old announced his move to Boston via Instagram.

"This is one of the best franchises in NBA history and it will be an honor to put on the green and white and do what I love," Schroder wrote. "I'm going out there every night and leaving it all on the floor for the city!!"

After reportedly turning down a four-year, $84 million extension from the Los Angeles Lakers in March, he became a free agent, with his deal in Boston worth the $5.9 million mid-level exception.

Schroder arrived in Los Angeles last off-season fresh off averaging 18.9 points on 46.9% shooting from the field and 38.5% from 3-point distance with the Oklahoma City Thunder, finishing second in Sixth Man of the Year voting. In 2020-21 with the Lakers he averaged 15.4 points on 43.7 percent shooting from the field and 33.5 percent from three.

In their first-round loss to the Phoenix Suns in the playoffs, Schroder struggled in the six games, averaging 14.3 points on 40 percent from the field and 30.3 percent from the 3-point line.

After the Celtics traded starting point guard Kemba Walker, the Celtics add depth to their backcourt alongside Marcus Smart and Josh Richardson, giving Schroder an opportunity to play meaningful minutes on a playoff team, hoping to boost his value again when he becomes a free agent next off-season.
