The Toronto Raptors have a quick turnaround after their first win of the season on Friday, as they will host the Dallas Mavericks at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday, Oct. 23. They will look to build on a blowout win over the Boston Celtics, propelled by a breakout performance from rookie forward Scottie Barnes.

Barnes was a ball of energy against the Celtics, going for 25 points, 13 rebounds and two assists while finishing a team-best +29 in a game the Raptors won by 32.

The No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft looked as polished as we've ever seen him, knocking down jump shots from all over the floor. And while his jumper looked smooth, it was his effort on the offensive glass that did the most damage. He grabbed a game-high six offensive rebounds, leading to eight easy second-chance points for his team.

Following a disappointing loss in their first true home game since February of 2020, the Raptors bounced back to come away with a victory over a division rival. After Jaylen Brown's 46-point outburst against the New York Knicks, Toronto held the star guard to just nine points. It will have to keep a similar mindset on defence as its next opponent approaches, with Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks looking to rebound from a season-opening loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

The Mavericks were routed by 26 points, failing to generate much offence and shooting 33.3 percent from the field and 30.2 percent from 3. Doncic was relatively held in check, only tallying 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, while sixth man Jalen Brunson was the only other Mavericks player to notch over 15 points, going for 17 off the bench.

Star forward Kristaps Porzingis struggled in the season opener, going for just 11 points and five boards on 4-for-13 shooting from the field. The 7-footer could be a difference maker against a smaller Raptors team, but he will need to be much more effective in order for the Mavericks to compete.
