Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum cleared to return from foot injury

Good news Trail Blazers fans!

Shooting guard CJ McCollum is set to return from a left foot fracture for Tuesday's (ET) game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

McCollum, who had been sidelined for eight weeks after suffering the injury in a win over the Atlanta Hawks on Jan. 16, was not listed on the Blazers injury report.

McCollum has suffered three foot fractures in his career and says he needed to be careful as possible with his recovery.

"I'm coming off my third fracture. I have to be smart and patient. I needed to see how my foot would respond to contact," McCollum told The Athletic's Jason Quick.

"People assume you get cleared and just go back to playing, not realizing I couldn't run for seven weeks. Conditioning comes from playing. I can't just run on the treadmill or bike and simulate the force you put through your foot and body."

The 29-year-old got off to a scorching start this season, averaging 26.7 points and 5.0 assists per game on 47.3% shooting and 44.1 percent from the 3-point line in 13 games.

The Blazers are still waiting on the return of injured center Jusuf Nurkic, who has been sidelined for two months with a right wrist fracture, but despite their injury struggled, they sit sixth in the Western Conference with a 22-16 record.
