Joel Embiid's gruesome finger injury suffered against the Oklamhoma City Thunder has delivered a further blow to the Philadelphia 76ers, with the team revealing the severity of the injury extends beyond a dislocated finger.

Embiid has suffered a torn radial collateral ligament in the fourth metacarpal in his left ring finger.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Embiid will require surgery. He is set to be re-evaluated in one to two weeks.

The two-time All-Star did return to the game after the initial injury but will now leave the Sixers without their leading scorer. Embiid is averaging 23.4 points and 12.3 rebounds per game on the season.

Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris and Al Horford will be expected to pick up the load offensively, starting with today's game against the Boston Celtics.
