Orlando Magic use fourth quarter surge to cruise past Joel Embiid-less Philadelphia 76ers

After escaping with a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers a day earlier, the Philadelphia 76ers were unable to find that same magic in Orlando, going down 112-97 at Amway Center.

Without their All-Star big man Joel Embiid, who was out with a sore left knee, the 76ers struggled to generate offence down the stretch, shooting just 6-of-19 from the field in the fourth quarter, with seven turnovers.

The Magic shot 13-of-24 in the fourth to outscore the 76ers 32-15, with D.J. Augustin, Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic combining for 22 of those points.

Vuceivc led all scorers with 25 points on the night, while Gordon added 18 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists in a well-rounded performance, playing some strong defence against Ben Simmons late in the game.

In the absence of Embiid, Simmons took the reigns of the 76ers offence, recording 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists. The Aussie picked up his fifth foul with 3:11 remaining in the third quarter and was held to just two points in the final frame.

Josh Richardson bounced back after shooting 1-for-8 from three against the Cavs, going 2-of-4 from deep against the Magic and 7-of-14 from the field for his 19 points.

Meanwhile, Tobias Harris' struggles shooting the ball continued in this one, going 4-of-13 from the field and 0-of-3 from the three-point line. In 11 games this season, Harris is shooting just 20.4 percent from beyond the arc on 4.5 attempts per game.

Former 76ers Markelle Fultz, started at point guard for the Magic, recording eight points, four rebounds and three assists in his 21 minutes, but it was D.J. Augustin who took the Magic home, running point late in the game as they seized control of the game.

Fultz showed flashes of why the 76ers drafted him first overall in 2017, with this two-handed slam in the second quarter.
