NBA Summer League 2019: Las Vegas Summer League Day 6 Recap

The Summer League action continued on Day 6 in Las Vegas, with plenty of highlights.

RJ Barrett led the Knicks to their first win of the tournament with a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double, while fellow Canadian Nickeil Alexander-Walker made it back-to-back 20+ point games in Vegas, leading the New Orleans Pelicans past the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Detroit Pistons 96, Philadelphia 76ers 81


Pistons: Bruce Brown – 11 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists

76ers: Jalen Jones – 12 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist

After a back-and-forth first half, the Pistons took control in the second half, outscoring the Sixers 51-38, led by Bruce Brown's impressive triple-double.

Dallas Mavericks 79, Croatia 71


Mavericks: Shayne Whittington – 19 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 blocks

Croatia:  Roko Rogic – 15 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals

Dallas took control of the game in the second quarter, winning the period 22-8, but they let Croatia hang around with some lacklustre play, turning the ball over 25 times.

Chicago Bulls 75, Charlotte Hornets 72


Bulls:  Daniel Gafford – 20 points, 10 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block

Hornets:  Devonte Graham – 14 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists

After leading for most of the game, the Hornets came undone in the fourth quarter as they were outscored 25-13 by the Bulls, who were led by second round pick Daniel Gafford's double-double.

No. 7 overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft Coby White struggled shooting the ball, going 4-of-17 from the field and 1-of-7 from three-point range for his  11 points. 

Brooklyn Nets 93, Orlando Magic 85


Nets:  Dzanan Musa – 20 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists

Magic: Jeremiah Hill – 21 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals

Musa scored 12 points in a crucial second quarter run to give the Nets a 52-37 halftime lead. After the Magic fought back to take a 73-69 lead in the fourth, Musa helped the Nets take control, capping off a 17-3 run with two buckets to seal the win.

Minnesota Timberwolves 90, Miami Heat 87


Timberwolves:  Jordan McLaughlin – 17 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists 

Heat:  Kendrick Nunn – 28 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals

The Timberwolves trailed by as many as 20 points in the third quarter, before mounting a huge second-half comeback. Miami's Kendrick Nunn tied things up at 87-87 with a dunk, before Naz Reid iced the game at the free throw line to finish with 15 points and 10 rebounds on the night. 

Aussie Mitch Creek chipped in 10 points to lead the Wolves to a perfect 4-0 record.

New Orleans Pelicans 99, Cleveland Cavaliers 78


Pelicans:  Nickeil Alexander-Walker – 26 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists

Cavaliers: Naz Mitrou-Long – 19 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists,1 block

Canadian Nickeil Alexander-Walker made it back-to-back 20+ point games in Vegas, leading the Pelicans in scoring with 26 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the field and 3-of-7 from three.

“He was outstanding out there today,” Pelicans Summer League head coach Fred Vinson said. “We’re just excited to have him.”

Jaxson Hayes continued to impress in the paint for New Orleans, recording 13 points and seven rebounds, showing off a little bit of range with this three-pointer in the fourth quarter:


Phoenix Suns 79, San Antonio Spurs 78


Spurs: Quinndary Weatherspoon – 19 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal

Suns:  Jalen Lecque – 14 points, 2 assists

Undrafted rookie Jalen Lecque came up clutch in the final seconds of the game, burying two free throws to seal the win for the Suns.

New York Knicks 117, Los Angeles Lakers 96 


Knicks: RJ Barrett – 21 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal 

Lakers:   Zach Norvelle – 20 points, 2 assists 

The Knicks pick up their first win in Vegas, behind another strong game from Barrett, while second-year forward Kevin Knox poured in 25 points in 24 minutes.

Milwaukee Bucks 84, China 67


Bucks:  Jock Landale – 23 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal

China:  Qi Zhou – 14 points, 17 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block

Aussie Jock Landale was in the thick of the action for the Bucks, leading them in scoring with 23 points on the night. The big man was tidy finishing around the rim out of the pick-and-roll, showing off some fancy footwork in the paint:


Golden State Warriors 73, Denver Nuggets 69


Warriors: Jacob Evans – 17 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 blocks 

Nuggets: Jarred Vanderbilt – 20 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals
