NBA Playoffs: Longest postseason streaks in NBA history

As the 2019-20 season restarts at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, the San Antonio Spurs, one of five teams contending for the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference, will be putting their 22-year playoff streak on the line.

They are currently tied for the longest streak in NBA history with the Syracuse Nationals/Philadelphia 76ers, who also made 22 straight postseason appearances from 1950-1971.

Here's a look at the teams with the longest postseason streaks (at least 14 straight) in NBA history:

Rank Franchises Streak Titles during streak
1 Syracuse Nationals/Philadelphia 76ers 22 (1950-1963; 1964-1971) 2 (1955, 1967)
1 San Antonio Spurs 22 (1998-2019) 5 (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2014)
3 Portland Trail Blazers 21 (1983-2003)
4 Utah Jazz 20 (1984-2003)
5 Boston Celtics 19 (1951-1969) 11 (1957,1959 -1966, 1968, 1969)
6 Los Angeles Lakers 17 (1977-1993) 5 (1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988)
7 Minneapolis Lakers/Los Angeles Lakers 16 (1959-1960; 1961-1974) 1 (1972)
8 Detroit Pistons 14 (1950-1957; 1958-1963)
8 Boston Celtics 14 (1980-1993) 3 (1981, 1984, 1986)
8 Chicago Bulls 14 (1985-1998) 6 (1991-93; 1996-98)
8 New York Knicks 14 (1988-2001)

It comes as no surprise that the winningest dynasty in NBA history - the Boston Celtics of the 1960s - has the highest success rate among all of the above teams.

Each of the four teams (Trail Blazers, Jazz, Pistons, Knicks) from the table above to not win a championship made multiple NBA Finals appearances during their streak but finished on the losing side each time.
