Clippers force Game 6 while the Rockets advance

Two Game 5s set with both the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors looking to close out their respective first-round series. 

The Rockets are coming off a Game 4 loss in Utah where Donovan Mitchell went off for 31 points to keep the Jazz alive. James Harden, Chris Paul and the Rockets will look to regroup and advance to the Semifinals for the fourth time in the last five seasons.

In the second game, the defending champion Warriors will look to close out the Clippers at Oracle Arena. Despite being down 3-1 in the series, the Clippers haven't gone away easy and have already proven they can win in Oakland.

If both Golden State and Houston win, they'll meet for the second straight year, this time in the Western Conference Semifinals.

Golden State Warriors 121, LA Clippers 129 (Golden State lead series 3-2)

The Warriors made a run in the fourth quarter, taking the lead 118-117 lead with 2:40 remaining in the game but they couldn't overcome another fourth-quarter show put on Lou Williams. 

Williams scored or assisted on 11 of the visitors' last 15 points, helping the Clippers outscore the Warriors 12-3 over the last 2:32 minutes of the game. 


 

The Clippers had five players in double figures and they rode them to this victory - Lou Williams (33 points, 10 assists), Danilo Gallinari (26 points), Patrick Beverley (17 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists), and Montrezl Harrell (24 points, 11-of-14 shooting).

Kevin Durant scored a postseason career-high 45 points on 14-of-26 shooting and 12-of-12 from the free-throw line along with 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Splash brother Stephen Curry (24) and Klay Thompson (22) combined for 46. 

End of third quarter: Clippers 104, Warriors 94

The Warriors cut the lead down to 3 but over the last 1:23, the Clippers scored seven unanswered to go into the final quarter with a 7-point lead. 

The visitors continue to do it by committee with five players in double figures, led by 22 points from Lou Williams (9-of-13 shooting). Patrick Beverley has contributed 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists as the Clippers are shooting 55.9% from the field. 


 

Meanwhile, Kevin Durant is having a spectacularly efficient game - 35 points on 10-of-15 shooting. 

Halftime: Clippers 71, Warriors 63

The Clippers are not going away. On some lights-out shooting in the second quarter, they outscored the Warriors 34-22.  

The visitors have four players in double figures - Lou Williams (18 points, 8-of-11 shooting), Danilo Gallinari (16 points), Patrick Beverley (14 points, 5-of-8 shooting), and Montrezl Harrell (10 points, 5-of-5 shooting).

As a team, the Clippers have shot 28-of-50 from the field (56.0% shooting) and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line with just 5 turnovers committed. 


 

For the Warriors, Kevin Durant (21 points, 7-of-10 shooting) and Klay Thompson (15 points, 6-of-10 shooting) have been firing. They have turned it over just four times and are shooting 10-of-16 from beyond the arc (62.5%).

 

End of first quarter: Warriors 41, Clippers 37

A high scoring first quarter starts off Game 5 at the Oracle Arena. 

Both teams have two players in double figures - Warriors (Kevin Durant - 12; Stephen Curry - 10), Clippers (Patrick Beverley - 11; Danilo Gallinari - 10). 


 

It's just a four-point game but the Warriors are red-hot from beyond the arc right now: 8-of-10 shooting.

Fourth quarter

The Jazz fought all the way to the end but it just wasn't enough as the Rockets were able to close the series out in five games with a 100-93 win. Donovan Mitchell struggled all night long with his shot finishing with just 12 points on 4-for-22 from the field. Royce O'Neale played well off the bench for the Jazz finishing with 18 points, five rebounds in 33 minutes. James Harden struggled from the field as well in Game 5 but finished with a game-high 26 points. Houston will play the winner of the Warriors-Clippers series.


Third quarter

James Harden is shooting just 7-for-21 from the field but leads the Rockets in scoring with 17 points through three quarters. Royce O'Neale has been a pleasant surprise for the Jazz all series long and is keeping them in Game 5 with 16 points through three. Donovan Mitchell has been quiet all game long with just nine points. The Jazz are within striking distance despite poor shooting and some sloppy play. They'll need a mistake-free fourth to try and stay alive here in the 2019 NBA Playoffs. Houston leads 75-69.


Second quarter

Utah played as well as they could've in the first nine minutes of the quarter but the explosive Rockets score 14 points in the final three minutes of the frame and take a four-point lead into halftime 46-42. Clint Capela, James Harden and Eric Gordon each have 10 points at the break. Rudy Gobert and Joe Ingles have nine each for the Jazz. Utah has struggled to find the range from three shooting just 24% from the land beyond. Ingles is the only Jazz player to find the range, he has three of the four Utah triples.


First quarter

The Jazz started the quarter on the wrong end of an 8-0 run, but close the quarter on the right side of an 8-0 run tying it up at 20 by period's end. Joe Ingles and Donovan Mitchell both finished the first 12 minutes with six points and Clint Capela and Eric Gordon both have six for Houston. The Jazz held James Harden without a field goal as he went 0-for-6.
