The NBA's free agency period is quickly approaching and 2019 NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard stands to be one of the most sought after members of an extremely talented free agent class.

The Toronto Raptors acquired Leonard in the summer of 2018 with an understanding that the All-NBA forward could elect to leave via free agency in a year but the franchise made the most of its season-long pitch to keep Kawhi, adequately managing his health and ultimately, winning an NBA title.

In addition to the year-long advantage, some of Toronto's biggest fans have begun their pitch to the superstar.

Saturday morning – eight ays before free agency officially begins – Toronto Mayor John Tory took to Twitter to share this polite petition for fans to urge Kawhi to stay with the Raptors. In the above Tweet, Tory stated: "This city has a championship team, with championship level fans. Let’s keep the championship MVP here in Toronto."

He also included a link to the petition, which can be found at http://kawhiushouldstay.com/.

While a number of teams will vie for his services, the Raptors franchise – and its fans – have certainly made their case for him to stay over the past year.

Free agency discussions officially begin at 6 p.m. on June 30, 2019.
