Following two seasons with the Utah Jazz, Ricky Rubio will reportedly join the Phoenix Suns on a three-year, $51 million contract, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Rubio averaged 12.9 points, 5.7 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game during his time with the Jazz, doing so on 41.2 percent shooting from the field and 33.2 percent from 3-point range. He was unlikely to re-sign with the Jazz once they acquired Mike Conley from the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this summer.

Rubio will likely start at point guard for the Suns, giving them a pass-first point guard to pair with Devin Booker, who averaged a career-high 26.6 points per game in the 2018-19 season.

The Indiana Pacers were the favourites to sign Rubio heading into the beginning of free agency. Marc Stein of The New York Times reported on the afternoon of June 30 that a "virtual done deal" between Rubio and the Pacers had been circulating for a week.

The Pacers went in a different direction, trading for Malcolm Brogdon and signing Jeremy Lamb.

Players can negotiate agreements with teams on Sunday, June 30 at 6:00 p.m. ET but contracts can't be officially signed until the new league year begins on July 6.
