Kevin Durant won't play in Game 2 of the 2019 NBA Finals, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr announced on Friday.

"Kevin is not going to play Sunday," Kerr said. "I guess we've been sort of holding out hope, but I might as well just say it now. He's not practicing today. We'll have a practice tomorrow, but he's still progressing.

"It's near impossible for him to play on Sunday."

Durant strained his right calf in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Houston Rockets.

Durant was averaging a career-high 34.2 points per game prior to the injury, doing so on 51.3 percent shooting from the field and 41.6 percent from the 3-point line. The Warriors are 5-1 in these playoffs without the two-time Finals MVP, their lone loss being Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Game 2 tips off at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. The series will then shift to Golden State for Games 3 and 4. According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, there is "some optimism" that Durant could play in Game 3, with Game 4 being "a strong possibility."
