Monday, Dec. 28 – NBA scores updates, stats, news and highlights

The NBA season rolled on with a five-game slate of action.

There was plenty of action to look back on with the Hawks improving their unbeaten record to 3-0 while the Nuggets and Grizzlies picked up their first wins of the season.

Atlanta Hawks 128, Detroit Pistons 120

The Hawks remain unbeaten. They improve to 3-0 behind 27 points and six assists from their superstar point guard Trae Young.

Six other players score in double figures led by contributions from Bogdan Bogdanovic (17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists), Rajon Rondo (12 points, 8 assists, 15 minutes), and Cam Reddish (11 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals).

Meanwhile, the Pistons remain winless. Rookie Killian Hayes finished with 10 points, eight assists, and two steals in 30 minutes.

Memphis Grizzlies 112, Brooklyn Nets 111 [OT]

The Grizzlies lose the reigning Rookie of the Year Ja Morant late in the first half, but battle without him to register the team's first win of the season.

They needed overtime against a Nets squad that suited up with Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and Spencer Dinwiddie. Kyle Anderson top-scored with 28 points for the Grizzlies while Caris LeVert stars for the Nets with 28 points and 11 assists.

Utah Jazz 110, Oklahoma City Thunder 109

The Utah Jazz improve to 2-1 for the young season behind a clutch performance from Donovan Mitchell.

Mike Conley finishes one shy of a triple-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. For the Thunder, Luguentz Dort top scored with 26 points while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 23 points and seven assists.

Denver Nuggets 124, Houston Rockets 111

Seven players scored in double figures as the Nuggets registered their first win of the season. All-Star Nikola Jokic led the way with his stat-sheet stuffing triple-double of 19 points, 18 assists, and 12 rebounds.

His 18 dimes are a career-high and the most by a center since Wilt Chamberlain in 1968. His triple-double is the 43 of his career - tying him Fat Lever for the most in franchise history and the ninth-most in NBA history.

James Harden was the Rockets' best player with 34 points and eight assists.

Portland Trail Blazers 115, Los Angeles Lakers 107

Lillard was responsible for 12 of the Trail Blazers' last 15 points as they snapped the Lakers' 59-game winning streak when leading after three quarters. CJ McCollum also contributed with 20 points and 11 assists while Gary Trent Jr. provided the spark of the bench with 28 points in 24 minutes on 10-of-14 shooting from the field.

For the Lakers, LeBron James was the biggest contributor with 29 points, nine rebounds, and six assists while Dennis Schroder chipped in with 24.
