Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant to miss 3-5 weeks with Grade 2 ankle sprain

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without Rookie of the Year Ja Morant for the next few weeks.

The team today announced that Morant suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain, an injury that has an expected recovery time of three to five weeks.

Morant suffered the injury in the second quarter of Memphis' win over the Brooklyn Nets as he landed on the foot of Nets guard Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot. Morant was unable to exit on his own power and was wheeled to the Grizzlies locker room before returning to the bench in the second half while wearing a walking boot.

While Morant will be out for an extended period of time, further imaging did not reveal any fractures or other structural damage in his foot.

The Grizzlies, who are now 1-2 on the season, will look to De'Anthony Melton and Tyus Jones to handle point guard responsibilities with Morant sidelined. Memphis also awaits the returns of Jaren Jackson Jr. and Justise Winslow, who each suffered season-ending injuries during the NBA Restart.

The Grizzlies are back in action when they visit the Boston Celtics. Stick with NBA.com for updates on the developing situation surrounding the Grizzlies' early-season injuries.
