Marc Gasol announces his return to Spain to play for Girona

The next chapter in Marc Gasol's basketball career has been revealed.

The three-time NBA All-Star announced that he will spend this season with Girona, a club that plays in the second division of Spain's basketball league.

Gasol founded Girona in 2014. He is both the team's owner and president.

The No. 48 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, Gasol played 13 seasons in the NBA, posting career averages of 14.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 blocks per game.

In addition to his three All-Star selections, Gasol earned one All-NBA First Team selection (2015), one All-NBA Second Team selection (2013), one All-Defensive Second Team selection (2013) and one Defensive Player of the Year award (2013).

In 2019, Gasol helped the Toronto Raptors win their first championship in franchise history. Many of his former Raptor teammates commented on his Instagram post above.

Gasol last played for the Los Angeles Lakers. He was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies during the 2021 offseason and was later waived.

Gasol, 36, said he will wait until the end of the season before deciding if he's going to retire.
