On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Lakers announced that they have signed J.R. Smith.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Smith's contract is for the remainder of this season. Smith and the Lakers have reportedly been discussing a deal since Lakers guard Avery Bradley announced that he has opted-out of the season restart at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida due to family reasons.

Smith last played in the 2018-19 season. He appeared in 11 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers that season, posting averages of 6.7 points, 1.9 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game.

Smith isn't the defender that Bradley is, but he's long been a capable 3-point shooter. For his career, close to half of his field goal attempts have come from the perimeter. He's made 37.3 percent of those opportunities.

Smith was teammates with LeBron James during his second go-around with the Cavaliers. The two won a championship together in the 2016 season.
