Los Angeles Lakers All-Star LeBron James, Nike and Florida A&M University (FAMU) Athletics have announced a six-year agreement that makes Nike the official provider of athletic footwear, apparel and equipment.

FAMU is a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), in Tallahassee, FL, that competes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) of the NCAA's Division I. As reported by ESPN's Nick DePaula, the partnership means that the Rattlers men's and women's basketball teams will wear exclusive footwear from Nike's LeBron line and their uniforms will bear the LeBron crown logo.

The announcement comes just days after James wore an exclusive FAMU Player Edition (PE) of the Nike LeBron 18 in the Lakers meeting with the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, March 2.

Following the game, James hinted at the looming partnership, as he took to Twitter to give a shoutout to FAMU, adding that he was "looking forward to what the future holds!"

This partnership comes as the NBA continues to highlight the importance of HBCUs with NBA All-Star 2021 in Atlanta, GA. On March 3, the league announced that as part of the All-Star festivities, over $3 million will be donated to HBCUs and communities impacted by COVID-19.
