LA Clippers centre Montrezl Harrell named 2019-20 Sixth Man of the Year

LA Clippers centre Montrezl Harrell has been named the 2019-20 Sixth Man of the Year.

While Harrell faced tough competition in back-to-back Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Dennis Schroder, the Clippers big man took home the award after coming up short last season.

He earned 58 out of a possible 100 first place votes with Schroder receiving 35 first place votes and Williams earning the other seven.

Harrell enjoyed a breakout season, averaging career-highs with 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds on a Clippers team that finished the regular season with one of the best records in the NBA. According to Basketball-Reference and StatMuse's Justin Kubatko, Harrell's impressive 58.0% shooting from the field marks the highest ever by a Sixth Man of the Year winner.

Additionally, Harrell became the first big man to take home the award since Lamar Odom in 2011, snapping an eight-year run of the Sixth Man of the Year going to a guard.

With the award staying in the Clippers' clubhouse, they become the second team in NBA history to win the award in three straight years, joining the Boston Celtics from 1983-1986 where Kevin McHale (2) and Bill Walton (1) took home the honour.
