Injury timeline, return date and latest updates on Joel Embiid after positive COVID test

Already battling a lengthy injury list, the Philadelphia 76ers are likely to be without superstar big man Joel Embiid for multiple games after he returned a positive COVID test.

The team has announced that Embiid has tested positive for COVID, joining Tobias Harris, Matisse Thybulle and Isaiah Joe in the league's health and safety protocols.

Despite the growing injury list, the Sixers have been impressive to start the season, holding an 8-3 record.

How long will Embiid be out?

Embiid was originally set to miss the one game against New York with a back-to-back scheduled against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Instead, Embiid could miss several games as he awaits consecutive negative tests to pass the league's health and safety protocols.

Nov. 8: Philadelphia head coach Doc Rivers reveals Embiid is suffering symptoms after contracting the virus.

"He's not doing great, struggling with it, like Tobias," Rivers said pregame.

The game against New York marked the fifth straight game missed for Harris.

Nov. 8: Embiid was listed as out on the injury report due to health and safety protocols.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported the positive test.

According to Charania, Philadelphia players were set to begin receiving booster shots as early as this week.
