Ja Morant: Grizzlies superstar point guard shares dream dunk contest participants

There are no two ways about the fact that Ja Morant is one of the most exciting dunkers in the NBA.

Although standing at 6-foot-3, Morant's athleticism allows him to soar and glide in the air and punch above his height and oftentimes, reminds fans of a young Russell Westbrook.

Only a couple of players, notably Westbrook and De'Aaron Fox, can be mentioned in the same breath as Morant when it comes to the explosive mix of athleticism, speed, scoring and playmaking.

If he competes in the dunk contest at the NBA All-Star Weekend, he would be among the biggest names to participate in recent history.

Which players should compete alongside him? Nobody can better answer that question than Morant himself.

"Zach LaVine, Aaron Gordon and I'm kind of in a toss-up between Derrick Jones Jr. and Zion," the 2019-20 Rookie of the Year said in an interview with Bleacher Report's Taylor Rooks when asked to name the three players that would give him the best run for his money.

Two of the four names Morant mentioned are former winners of the dunk contest - Jones Jr. (2020) and LaVine (2015, 16) - while Gordon, a two-time runner-up (2016, 2020), is regarded among the best there is especially after the duel he put on with LaVine in Toronto at the 2016 NBA All-Star Weekend.

As exciting as the list is, Morant indicated earlier in the same interview that he wasn't keen on participating in the dunk contest.

"I don't think so," Morant said when asked if he would ever participate in the dunk contest.

Citing judging as his biggest concern to participate, Morant later mentioned that '$1 million' could change his mind.
