Full list of female assistant coaches for NBA's 75th anniversary season

The league has come a long way since Lisa Boyer became the first-ever female assistant coach for the 2001-02 season. After her single-season stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, no women were hired as assistant coaches in the NBA for over a decade.

Then, in 2014, WNBA legend Becky Hammon broke down the door when she joined the San Antonio Spurs in the 2014 offseason.

In fact, 12 of the 15 women to have served as female assistants in the NBA history have been hired after 2017.

  • The 2021-22 season will be Hammon's eighth season with the Spurs. She is the longest-serving female assistant coach in NBA history. In the 2020-21 season, she became the first woman in NBA history to coach a regular-season game when she took charge following Gregg Popovich's ejection in a Spurs' home game against the Lakers.
  • Toliver is the only active women's professional basketball player to also be an assistant coach with an NBA franchise. Playing for the Los Angeles Sparks, the 2021 WNBA season is the 12th of her playing career.
  • Boucek had been an assistant on Rick Carlisle's coaching staff in Dallas since 2018. In the 2021 offseason, she moved to Indiana and remained with Carlisle, who after parting ways with the Mavericks signed on to become the head coach of the Pacers.
  • Curry was the only woman to be hired to an NBA coaching staff during the 2021 offseason.
