FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament: Recap from Wednesday, June 30

The Group Phase of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments continued on Wednesday as 14 teams took the floor in hopes of bringing their Olympic dreams closer to reality.

Some teams were eliminated, while others rode major performances from their world-class talent to gear up for the next stage.

Among those to take the floor, NBA notables including Luka Doncic (Slovenia), Jonas Valanciunas (Lithuania) and Boban Marjanovic (Serbia) each turned in big-time performances to lead their respective nations to victory.

Kaunas, Lithuania

Group A: Venezuela 94, Korea 80

After losing in the opener, Venezuela bounced back with a victory over Korea.

Heissler Guillent led the way for Venezuela with 17 points (on 5-for-11 shooting), while the team finished the game shooting 14-for-30 from deep, a slight contrast from Korea's 9-for-29.

Group B: Slovenia 118, Angola 68

It was all Slovenia in the dominant 50-point victory over Angola, which has been eliminated after an 0-2 showing in the Group Phase.

Former Phoenix Sun Zoran Dragic led Slovenia with 16 points but it was Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic that did a a little bit of everything, finishing with 13 points, nine assists and six rebounds in just over 17 minutes of action.

Split, Croatia

Group A: Mexico 72, Russia 64

After trailing at the half, Mexico outscored Russia 41-28 in the second half to take an eight-point win and move to 1-1 in the Group Phase.

Mexico was led by Francisco Cruz, who finished with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists in just under 33 minutes. Former NBA player Gustavo Ayon finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists in 25 minutes of action.

Group B: Brazil 94, Croatia 67

Brazil moved to a perfect 2-0 in the Group Phase with a wire-to-wire victory over the host Croatia.

In its second game in as many days, Brazil was led by 20 points from Rafael Hettsheimeir while 2014 first round draft pick Bruno Caboclo added 17 points and eight rebounds in 27 minutes of action. For the hosts, Utah Jazz sharpshooter Bojan Bogdanovic scored a team-high 16 points (on 5-for-11 shooting) while former lottery pick Mario Hezonja shot just 1-for-7 from the field.

Belgrade, Serbia

Group A: Serbia 83, Phillippines 76

Serbia takes the Group A crown by moving to 2-0 with its seven-point win.

Dallas Mavericks big man Boban Marjanovic led the way for Serbia with a dominant 25-point, 11-rebound double-double in 26 minutes of action. Former LA Clippers guard Milos Teodosic put his playmaking on full display with six assists to go along with 13 points.

Victoria, Canada

Group A: Canada 109, China 79

Canada makes it a perfect 2-0 to close the Group Phase.

For the second straight game, it was Andrew Wiggins that led the way, this time it was with 20 points. Wiggins was one of four different players to sink three 3-pointers, as Canada finished the game shooting 17-for-43 from beyond the arc.

Group B: Turkey 87, Czech Republic 70

Turkey have backed up their win over Uruguay with a strong performance against the Czech Republic. Philadelphia 76ers guard Furkan Korkmaz led the way for Turkey with 20 points and four rebounds on 4-for-8 shooting.
