Dion Waiters is set to make his season debut today against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena, the Miami Heat announced a couple of hours before tip-off.

The 27-year-old has been sidelined for the entire 2018 calendar year, after undergoing surgery in January after a left ankle injury. He last appeared in an NBA game on December 22, 2017.

Waiters' return will no doubt give the Heat's offence a spark, but coach Erik Spoelstra is preaching patience for the shooting guard.

“It’s a positive having him available. He’s come a long way to get to this point. It’s a great sign," Spoelstra said. "I don’t know necessarily if he’s going to get in, patience is something that’s going to have to be important on both sides.”

More to come
