Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic odds-on favourite to be named MVP of 2020-21 season

Giannis Antetokounmpo has won the last two MVP awards, but the odds aren't in his favour when it comes to winning a third straight.

According to BetOnline, Luka Doncic is the early front-runner to be named MVP of the 2020-21 season at +500. Antetokounmpo is tied with LeBron James in second place at +600, followed by Stephen Curry (+700), James Harden (+800) and Anthony Davis (+1000).

Damian Lillard (+1200), Kevin Durant (+1200), Kawhi Leonard (+1400) and Nikola Jokic (+1600) round out the top-10.

Player Odds
Luka Doncic +500
Giannis Antetokounmpo +600
LeBron James +600
Stephen Curry +700
James Harden +800
Anthony Davis +1000
Damian Lillard +1200
Kevin Durant +1200
Kawhi Leonard +1400
Nikola Jokic +1600
Jimmy Butler +2000
Joel Embiid +2000
Donovan Mitchell +2500
Jayson Tatum +2500
Kyrie Irving +3300
Russell Westbrook +3300

After winning Rookie of the Year, Doncic averaged 28.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game in his sophomore season. He was named an All-Star for the first time in his career, led the Dallas Mavericks to a 42-32 record in the regular season on the strength of the most efficient offence ever recorded, made the All-NBA First Team alongside Harden, James, Antetokounmpo and Davis, finished fourth in MVP voting and broke a number of records in his first-ever postseason.

If Doncic and the Mavericks take another step forward next season - a safe bet considering Doncic is their best player and has yet to turn 22 - it's easy to imagine him being in a position to win MVP.

For Antetokounmpo, he'll be looking to join Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Larry Bird as the only players in NBA history to win three straight MVP awards. James, meanwhile, will be looking to win his fifth MVP award, which would tie him with Russell and Michael Jordan for the second-most all-time.
