Dirk Nowitzki passes Wilt Chamberlain on the NBA's all-time scoring list

Dirk Nowitzki entered Monday night needing just four points to pass Wilt Chamberlain on the NBA's all-time scoring list.

He did so just over three minutes into the first quarter with his patented elbow jumpshot in the Dallas Mavericks matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans.

The 2007 league MVP, who won a title with the Mavs in 2011, is the second all-time leading scorer among all active players. In moving past Chamberlain, he now trails only Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the all-time scoring list.

Just over 800 points separate Nowitzki and Michael Jordan, who sits fifth on the all-time scoring list.

In his 21st season, Nowitzki is averaging 6.0 points per game.
