Chris Paul passes Magic Johnson for fifth-most assists in NBA history

Chris Paul continues to rise on the NBA's all-time assists leaderboard, climbing past Hall of Famer and Laker great Magic Johnson for fifth-most career assists.

Johnson recorded 10,141 assists in 906 career regular-season games on an average of 11.2 per game while Paul surpasses that tally in his 1,076th career game.

In his 16th season, aged 35, Paul passed one of the greatest point guards of all time with a breakaway dime to Devin Booker.

That pass was one of Paul's 13 assists as the Suns outlasted the Bucks 128-127 in overtime in Milwaukee to bounce back from a 26-point home loss to the Spurs a couple of days earlier.

As the table above shows, Paul needs just under 200 assists to rise past Mark Jackson and Steve Nash for third all-time. Given, his season average of 8.8 and the number of games remaining (16), Paul might have to wait until his 17th campaign to make that climb.
