Chris Paul passes Magic Johnson for fifth-most assists in NBA history

Chris Paul continues to rise on the NBA's all-time assists leaderboard, climbing past Hall of Famer and Laker great Magic Johnson for fifth-most career assists.

Johnson recorded 10,141 assists in 906 career regular-season games on an average of 11.2 per game while Paul surpasses that tally in his 1,076th career game.

Rank Player Assists
1 John Stockton 15,806
2 Jason Kidd 12,091
3 Steve Nash 10,335
4 Mark Jackson 10,334
5 Chris Paul 10,145
6 Magic Johnson 10,141

In his 16th season, aged 35, Paul passed one of the greatest point guards of all time with a breakaway dime to Devin Booker.

That pass was one of Paul's 13 assists as the Suns outlasted the Bucks 128-127 in overtime in Milwaukee to bounce back from a 26-point home loss to the Spurs a couple of days earlier.

As the table above shows, Paul needs just under 200 assists to rise past Mark Jackson and Steve Nash for third all-time. Given, his season average of 8.8 and the number of games remaining (16), Paul might have to wait until his 17th campaign to make that climb.
