Chicago Bulls relieve Jim Boylen of head coach position, search for a replacement to begin immediately

The Chicago Bulls have relieved Jim Boylen of his coaching duties the team announced on Friday morning.

Boylen was promoted during the 2018-19 season to head coach after Fred Hoiberg was fired leaves with a record of 39-84.

His .317 winning percentage ranks as the second-worst in franchise history only behind Tim Floyd (.0205) for coaches who've coached a minimum of 100 games.

Bulls Executive Vice President - Basketball Operations Arturas Karnisovas said in a release:

"After doing a comprehensive evaluation and giving the process the time it deserved, I ultimately decided that a fresh approach and evolution in leadership was necessary. This was a very difficult decision, but it is time for our franchise to take that next step as we move in a new direction and era of Chicago Bulls basketball. Jim is a great human being that cares deeply about this organization and the game of basketball. I want to thank him for his professionalism and commitment to the franchise."

Karnisovas took over the team's basketball operations in May and said he will begin a coaching search for the Bulls' 24th head coach immediately.

The Bulls finished with a 22-43 record missing the playoffs for the third straight season.

There are some positives in Chicago however with a young talented roster led by Zach Lavine, Lauri Markkanen and Wendell Carter Jr. many Bulls' fans are hoping they can get back to the playoffs soon with the right man in charge.
