Charlotte Hornets LaMelo Ball named best breakthrough athlete at 2021 ESPYs

The accolades keep coming for Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball. 

Fresh of being named 2020-21 Kia Rookie of the Year, the youngest ball brother was named Best Breakthrough Athlete of 2021 at the ESPYs.

Ball was one of four athletes nominated and the only from the NBA, beating out Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers, NFL), Chase Young (Washington Football Team, NFL), )and Crystal Dangerfield (Minnesota Lynx, WNBA). 

The 19-year-old was selected with the No.3 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, averaged 15.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.6 steals in 28.8 minutes per game and became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double after dropping 22 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists against the  Atlanta Hawks in January (19 years and 140 days old).
