The NBA has announced that Portland Trail Blazers veteran and 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony has been named the inaugural Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion.

Anthony was selected from a group of five finalists, for driving equality for individuals or groups who have been historically marginalized or systemically disadvantaged.

Sacramento Kings forward Harrison Barnes, Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris, Milwaukee Bucks guard Jrue Holiday and Golden State Warriors forward Juan Toscano-Anderson were the other finalists for the award.

Anthony has been a consistent leader for change since entering the NBA, with his Carmelo Anthony Foundation launching over 15 years ago. Through the foundation and various other ventures Anthony has been prolific in the social impact space.
