Wherever you look in the basketball world, there is no shortage of CanCon. The world of Esports is no exception.

Toronto native Meyhar Ahmed-Hassan, also known by his Gamertag "AuthenticAfrican," has established himself as one of the world's best NBA 2K players during his four seasons with Grizz Gaming of the NBA 2K League.

Ahmed-Hassan recently sat down with another Toronto native, Kelcey Wright Johnson, Digital Contributor and Host with Grind City Media and the Memphis Grizzlies, on the "Just Grizzlies Podcast." On the pod, the two touched on a range of topics, from his Toronto upbringing to the potential growth he sees in the Esports realm.

Affectionately known by teammates as "Double-A," Ahmed-Hassan was selected by Grizz Gaming with the 20th overall pick in the inaugural NBA 2K League Draft and is one of a shortlist of players that remain with the same team that drafted them in 2018.

In his rookie season, Ahmed-Hassan quickly established himself as one of the best players in the league, setting a league record with an 84-point performance against 76ers GC. To this day, his record still stands.

As they delved more into the Canadian presence within the 2K League, Ahmed-Hassan identified Yusuf "Scarbz" Abdulla of Kings Guard Gaming, Daniel "DT" Tlais of Magic Gaming and "Sav" Valge-Sarr of Heat Check Gaming as three of the more notable Canadians in the league.

Toronto-based Raptors Uprising GC is the lone 2K League franchise in Canada and is yet another representation of the growth of Esports in the country.

The amount of prominent Canadians in the league is especially relevant, given Ahmed-Hassan's statement that "I feel like the potential of 2K is just getting tapped (into)." The 28-year-old mentioned having the opportunity to represent Canada on an international gaming level and mentioned that in the distant future, Esports could make their way to the Olympic Games.

For his career, Ahmed-Hassan's player, a center for Grizz Gaming, averages 17.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. Grizz Gaming has clinched a spot in the 2021 2K League Playoffs, which begin on Friday, Aug. 26.
