Bradley Beal passes Gilbert Arenas for franchise record as curious case of losses in 40-point games continues

Bradley Beal really wanted the win this one against the Bucks.

In a back-and-forth contest in Milwaukee, the league's second-leading scorer dropped 42 including the team's final eight points but in the end, the Wizards stumbled 135-134.

This was Beal's 29th 40-point game of his career, taking him past Gilbert Arenas for the most the franchise history. However, for the Wizards, wins seem to be lava when Beal scores 40 or more.

Their 2-15 record over the past two seasons when he scores at least 40 includes 11 straight losses, the longest such streak in NBA history.

This streak gained attention when Beal scored 40 plus in consecutive games with the Wizards would losing both.

A couple of these big games over the last two seasons came against the Bucks when Beal combined for 102 points (47 and 55) in two matchups last season, only to lose both. In fact, the Wizards have now lost eight straight to the Bucks, seven of which Beal has played and he has scored 37 or more in the last four.

He had plenty of help in this one behind Russell Westbrook's 179th career triple-double with 29 points, 17 assists, 12 rebounds and three steals while Daniel Gafford finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds in 14 minutes.

A win in this one with the Bucks missing Khris Middleton would have jumped the Wizards to the ninth seed and more or less sealed a Play-in spot, with their four-game lead over the Raptors with six games to go.

Instead, the curious case of Wizards losses when Beal scores at least 40 continues and the team is now headed to Tampa on the second night of a back-to-back with a three-game lead over the Raptors.
