Boston Celtics legend Tom Heinsohn has passed away at the age of 86.

Heinsohn was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach, spending his entire career with the Celtics organization. In nine seasons as a player, he won eight NBA championships to go with six All-Star appearances, four All-NBA selections and the 1957 Rookie of the Year award. He averaged 18.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in his career, playing a key role in all eight titles alongside other Boston all-time greats like Bill Russell and Bob Cousy during the franchise's Golden Age.

In 1969, Heinsohn took over as head coach of the Celtics, earning two more NBA championships over the course of nine seasons. He is one of only four people in the Hall of Fame to be inducted as a player and a coach.

Three years later, Heinsohn would become a colour commentator for the Celtics broadcast booth, a role he would hold for the remainder of his life from 1981 until 2020. In the 1980s Heinsohn served a the primary colour commentator for CBS Sports calling four NBA Finals - three of which included the Celtics and Lakers.

Truly embodying Boston's mantra of "bleeding green," Heinsohn has been a part of all of the franchise's 17 NBA championships as either a player, coach or broadcaster.

His retired No. 15 hangs in the TD Garden rafters and his impact on the Celtics organization will never be forgotten.
