Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward suffered a fractured left hand in the first half of the Boston Celtics' game against the San Antonio Spurs, the team announced.

Hayward collided with Spurs big man LaMarcus Aldridge late in the second quarter, immediately leaving the game and did not return.

The 29-year-old left the game with nine points, two rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal.

Hayward's agent told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that Hayward will see a specialist on Tuesday (AEDT) to further assess the injury. If surgery is required, it will take place the same day.

The injury is a big blow for both the Celtics and Hayward, who was playing at a high level to start the season, two-years removed from suffering a dislocated left ankle and fractured left tibia in his first game for the Boston in 2017.

Entering today's game, Hayward was averaging 20.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists through the first seven games of the season.
