Giannis Antetokounmpo and James Harden headline All-NBA First Team, Kawhi Leonard earns Second Team honours

The NBA today announced the All-NBA teams for the 2018-19 season.

Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Rockets guard James Harden were unanimous First Team selections and were joined by Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Thunder forward Paul George and Nuggets centre Nikola Jokić.

Antetokounmpo, Harden and George are the three finalists for the 2018-19 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player Award. The winner will be revealed at the 2019 NBA Awards presented by Kia on Monday, June 24. The third annual NBA Awards, honouring this season’s top performers, will take place at Barker Hangar in Los Angeles.

Raptors forward Kawhi Leonard earned All-NBA Second Team honours, joining 76ers centre Joel Embiid, Warriors forward Kevin Durant, Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard and Celtics guard Kyrie Irving.

Leonard becomes the fifth Raptor to earn All-NBA honours in franchise history, joining Vince Carter, Chris Bosh, Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan.

Thunder guard Russell Westbrook headlines the All-NBA Third Team, which also features Pistons forward Blake Griffin, Jazz centre Rudy Gobert, Hornets guard Kemba Walker and Lakers forward LeBron James, who earns All-NBA honours for the 15th time in his 16-year career, tying an NBA record.

The All-NBA Teams were selected by a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. The media voted for All-NBA First, Second and Third Teams by position with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis. Voters selected two guards, two forwards and one center for each team, choosing players at the position they play regularly. Players who received votes at multiple positions were slotted at the position where they received the most votes.
