76ers guard Ben Simmons expected to return from back injury should season resume, reports say

The Philadelphia 76ers might be at full strength should the NBA season return.

According to ESPN's Jackie MacMullan, the 76ers are expecting to have All-Star guard Ben Simmons back in the lineup if the league were to resume.

Simmons has been out recovering from a pinched nerve in his lower back since Feb. 22 when he left a game against the Milwaukee Bucks early. The team ruled him out on March 11 and announced that he would be re-evaluated in three weeks' time. Now it appears that Simmons may have gotten the green light to return to action.

The 23-year-old is averaging 16.7 points, 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds and leads the league with 2.1 steals per game.

The news might put a smile on the face of 76ers fans who've had to endure an up and down season thus far. With both Simmons and All-Star big man Joel Embiid spending time on the mend, the team hasn't been able to jell as many expected they would prior to the season.

Philadelphia is currently 39-26, good for the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. Should the playoffs start when the season resumes, that means a first-round date with the rival Boston Celtics, who have had the 76ers' number the last couple of seasons.

This year, however, the 76ers have won the season series 3-1 over the Celtics.
