Biggest storylines

Luka looking good

It's the preseason, so Luka Doncic didn't get to completely stuff the stat sheet but he gave it his best shot in limited minutes.

Head coach Jason Kidd held Doncic to just 15:33 of court time, which was just enough time for the Slovenian superstar to tally 19 points, six rebounds and five assists on 8-for-10 shooting from the floor.

Criticised for a slow start to the 2021 season by his lofty standards, Doncic appears in good shape as the Mavericks attempt to move into the second round for the first time in his career.

Tailing 31-22 after the first period, Doncic dropped 14 in the second quarter, including a fade away jumper to beat the halftime buzzer. All of a sudden Dallas were leading and Luka's work was done.

The Allen and Mobley connection

Wiped off the floor by the Chicago Bulls just 24 hours earlier, the Cleveland Cavaliers bounced back to take down the Atlanta Hawks.

The 99-96 win was iced at the free-throw down the stretch, but perhaps the most exciting aspect of the night was the play of rookie big man, Evan Mobley.

Mobley started alongside Jarrett Allen for the second night in a row as the pair once again put together a nice line. Mobley backed up his 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks against the Bulls by tallying eight points, 12 rebounds and two blocks against the Hawks.

The pair were joined by Collin Sexton, Darius Garland and Isaac Okoro as Cleveland fans continue to get a glimpse into the future of the franchise.

Can Poole and Porter Jr. be the answer for Golden State?

The Golden State Warriors scratched out a 118-116 win over the Denver Nuggets at home.

Putting the scoreboard to the side, Steve Kerr and the Warriors were delivered another promising performance from a pair of role players looking to fill the early season void of the recovering Klay Thompson.

Jordan Poole backed up a massive game against Portland in the opener to finish with 17 points in 22 minutes, while Otto Porter Jr. chipped in with 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists off the bench in 18 minutes.

Along with Andrew Wiggins, the duo will need to provide a reliable scoring option to support Stephen Curry if the Warriors are to stay near the top of the standings in the Western Conference.
